About BookishB

Bookish B Brit Kling Headshot BW_edited.

Editor and Lover of Literature

Brittany, mostly known as Brit and the “B” of BookishB, is a voracious reader. When she's not spending time with her family, her spare time is devoted to consuming *more coffee, attempting to conquer her TBR pile, and pickleball. She knew she wanted to be a book editor from a young age and distinctly remembers looking at the spines of the books on her shelves and hand-writing letters to those publishing houses asking for advice on how to be an editor (dating herself, she knows ;P). In college, she received journalism and communication studies degrees, which enabled her to edit professionally and furthered her knowledge of different editing styles. She got her start editing novels with her grandfather’s historical fiction and non-fiction books. In 2022, she had a dream to set up her own freelance/ indie-editing business, and with support and thanks to some author friends, she was fortunate to open her virtual doors just before her 30th birthday summer of 2023, and at just 5 months of business had edited over a million published words. She is so glad to be in this space, helping authors' writing dreams come to fruition. True appreciation goes out to her husband and family, who have encouraged her to pursue her dreams.

My Editing Process: What to Expect

First - I insist that authors fill out my form https://forms.gle/GEM6jWdbM6WTTJLz5. At the heart of being a good editor, is being a good listener. And I want to listen to you! This form starts the "getting-to-know-you" process that ensures I understand your goals and adhere to your artistic voice. I strive to be approachable and coachable to make this the best editing experience for you.

Second - If possible, I read any previous books from your series (if this is mid-series) to grasp the universe I will be immersed in. This helps me understand your characters and their worlds so I can be a more effective editor.

Next - I do my first read-through of your manuscript, making no edits/changes (unless I can’t help myself). This enables me to know your book before I try to make any corrections.

Then - I start my second go-through and actually edit. I do this in Microsoft Word or Google Docs, per your preference, and utilize track changes and comments.

Once I finish the corrections, I do a final read-through with the implemented changes, then send an invoice with a link to your edited document.

Finally - I add your name to my website's BookishB Hall of Fame Author page. And within a few weeks of your release date, I leave a 4-to-5-star review on your book via Amazon!
